A narrated version of my piece, “Open.”
It’s a poem I wrote not long after moving to Saint Petersburg—before I fully understood just how much I needed a new beginning.
Let me correct that: I knew I needed a new beginning.
I just wasn’t ready to let go of the life I’d built…
and I was going through the motions of a new beginning, while part of me was still waiting for the old story to change its ending.
On the surface, it’s a poem about settling in.
But beneath that? It’s about thirst. Longing.
And that quiet, unspoken hope that what I was really searching for might still find me.
