The Goldilocks Guide to Hitting Send
Because not everyone wants porridge for breakfast seven days a week.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the sweet spot when it comes to publishing frequency on Substack. Like Goldilocks with her porridge, I’m trying to find the rhythm that’s not too much, not too little—but just right.
Here’s the thing: I love writing. I write every day. That practice—showing up consistently, even when the words come slowly—is what’s making me a better writer. It’s my rhythm, my ritual, my anchor.
But I’ve noticed something in the data (yes, the wonk in me never sleeps). My 30-day reads continue to climb, which is encouraging. But I’ve also started losing a few subscribers with my most recent flurry of posts. Nothing dramatic—no scandal, no walkouts—but I suspect it might be a case of reader overwhelm. Too much of a good thing, perhaps.
So I’m planning a slight shift. Not in what I write, or how often I write—but in how often I hit “send.”
Here’s the new plan:
Monday – The latest Maggie B. story
Wednesday – A new chapter of Holding On
Friday – Flashback Friday
Sunday – A gentle weekly roundup: what’s new, what’s moved, what’s worth catching up on
I’ll still be writing—and even publishing—on other days, but those pieces will live quietly on BrittleViews.com without a newsletter notification. If you’re curious, you’ll always find them there. And if you prefer a curated digest, the Sunday note will have your back.
What I’m aiming for is spaciousness—for you, and for me. A cadence that feels sustainable. A way of honoring the daily practice without overwhelming the inbox.
Sound like a plan?
