Although I haven't lived in my home town for almost half a century, in some ways, I'm ever closer to it. I came of age in Thatcher's Britain, and saw first-hand how cruel her version of the post-Industrial transition was to the communities I grew up in. Whenever I'm back, I see hope and despair in equal measures. The mines were our life blood for generations, and they also were killing us, or at the least, breaking the health of our menfolk. When they disappeared within a generation, little was done to replace them. The strong communities that held people together didn't always survive.
The Ches Vegas Tales could be set anywhere. They just happen to be set in my home town.
I like the character development...they grew in front of me. Nice job.
Thanks, Colleen.
