This 'Needle Drops' series has been really powerful to write and narrate. Because of my mum's illness and early death, I have always known that that period was pivotal for me, and for the man I would become. I put a lot of my actions down to the fact that I was acting out, and the way I see them now was that I was hurting out, and how lucky I was to have friends who showed me love (sometimes in not-so-conventional ways) and kept me safe.
